Let’s talk prediabetes. What is it? Prediabetes Let’s talk prediabetes. What is it? Prediabetes is a condition in which your blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not high enough yet to be diagnosed as type 2 diabetes. More than 1-in-3 American adults has it but more than 80% don’t know they do.

With prediabetes, your risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke increases.

Common risk factors include:
-Being 45 years or older
-Having a parent or sibling with type 2 diabetes
-Being physically active less than 3 times a week
-Ever having gestational diabetes
-Having PCOS

Looking to asses your risk? Check out the graphic on our story or schedule an appointment with a registered dietitian! We have both 1-on-1 and group sessions available.

There is nothing wrong with almond milk! For our friends with a lactose or milk protein (whey or casein) allergy, it’s a great substitute for traditional cow’s milk.

This is why everyone’s dietary recommendations will be different!

With that being said, almond milk is not nutritionally superior by any means. Like most other milks/milk substitutes (oat, cashew) it’s meant to be a component of a larger meal, such as a smoothie.

It’s always important to incorporate variety into our diet, but remember you should also be including things because you enjoy them.

Foods are not good or bad! We are not good or bad Foods are not good or bad! We are not good or bad for consuming or not consuming certain foods. Food is neutrual, it's diet culture that assigns this (fake) morality to foods.

Your body cannot tell the difference between a cookie and a strawberry. It only knows the makeup of that food (carbs, fat, protein, micronutrients, water, etc.) It takes those macro and micronutrients and uses them for fuel.

Do you subconsciously assign “good” and “bad” to foods? How can you challenge your own beliefs and feelings surrounding certain foods?
Guess what, it’s not fat! Here are some reasons Guess what, it’s not fat! Here are some reasons why the scale may have changed overnight:

⭐️You had a tough workout yesterday— Your body sent water and nutrients to your recovering muscles, causing the number to rise.

⭐️You had a salty dinner last night— Water follows salt and causes us to retain water.

⭐️You’re menstruating— this time of the month often correlates with higher weight. Don’t worry, it’s temporary!

⭐️You have more stress than usual— Our body produces more cortisol, causing you retain more water.

⭐️You got a poor night of sleep— This increases cortisol (see last bullet!)

⭐️You had more fiber the day before— Fiber makes poop and poop weighs something!

All of these things will be taken care of returning to normal habits, so dont fret! If you’re having trouble with this, maintaining a positive mindset using the scale- discuss with your dietitian if weighing yourself is a good tool for you. We’re in the business of improving your health, not making you smaller.
